This weeks program was a Power Point program produced by Rotary International about Polio Plus.

It included historical footage from the 1950s about the polio epidemic in the US. Then it went back to 1932 and Franklin Delano Roosevelt's election to the Presidency coupled with his discovery that he had contracted polio as an adult. He started the March of Dimes program to help fund polio research and treatment. The reason for the 1950s outbreak was that our society had become too sanitary, destroying the childhood immunities that normally would have prevented contracting polio.

TRIVIA: Did you know that Roosevelt's image was put on the dime in 1946 because he supported the March of Dimes?
